This test not only detects the presence of bacteria in a patient’s mouth, which causes periodontal disease but also identifies specific bacterial species being involved and their quantities. The test is based on recognizing the genetic makeup of each present pathogen, using bacterial DNA sequencing. These bacteria cannot be grown in a petri dish and this is the only approach, applying the latest available technology. The patient’s saliva sample is collected and sent to the only lab in the country. In two weeks we get the results and, along with other collected data, plan the treatment accordingly.
